Yes it is safe to use credit cards here. Just check the totals before you sign and dont let them out of your sight if you can help it.
Just take your usual precautions that you take at home.
You will be asked for identification when using them in shops so I would advise you to either carry your passport or a coloured photocopy of it or if you have one you photo driving license.
