Mixed Weather
November sees a change of seasons in Gran Canaria, with an increase in rain, cloud and with a slight decrease in temperatures. At this time of year, the weather can be changeable and cloudy, so it is advisable to stay on the sunnier south coast to maximise the probability of good weather. November is well-known for its fantastic red sunsets, so bring your camera.
Daytime High Temperatures
The average daily maximum temperature at Gran Canaria Airport is 24.2°C in November. The south coast resorts, such as Maspalomas or Puerto de Mogan, will see temperatures of about a degree warmer than that, and Las Palmas (in the north) sees maximums of about half a degree cooler than the Airport.
Nighttime Low Temperatures
The average nightly low temperature at Gran Canaria Airport during November is 18°C. Minimums in the city of Las Palmas tend to be a bit warmer thanks to the urban heat highland and cloud cover. Nighttime minimums tend to be a little colder in the south coast resorts, so it’s a good idea to pack a light jacket or cardigan for the evenings.
Cloud Cover
As always, the south coast is less cloudy than Las Palmas and other locations in the north, however the difference between north and south is a little less pronounced at this time of year. The airport sees an average of 26.4 days that are either overcast or have some clouds in the sky, but it is considerably sunnier in places such as Puerto de Mogan.
Rain
There is usually some rain in November – in fact, it is the only month of the year that has not recorded a completely dry month at the Airport since records began. That doesn’t mean that there is a monsoon or anything like that, but the airport does receive an average of 21.7mm over the course of the month. The airport, on average, sees 8.2 days with some rain (over 0.1mm) during November, though places such as Puerto de Mogan or Puerto Rico on the South-west coast will generally see less.
Wind
The trade winds are less dominant at this time of year, and the airport has a median wind speed of 20kmph. The median wind speed is much lower in the sheltered south coast tourist resorts (Maspalomas, Puerto Rico etc.), so wind is never really a consideration there anyway. There is the outside chance of a storm at this time of year, such as in 2005, when Tropical Storm Delta struck the islands.
Sea Temperature
The sea remains fairly warm in November with median temperatures of 21 or 22°C. It is usually still quite pleasant for a dip, though you might want a wetsuit if you plan on spending a long time in the water (especially towards the end of the month).
