Puerto de las Nieves and Agaete, Gran CanariaAgaete is a small town in the north-west of Gran Canaria and Puerto de las Nieves is a neighbouring Fishing Village.
Of note in Agaete itself is the Iglesia de La Concepción (Church of the Conception), which dates back to 1874, when it replaced the previous chapel (from 1515), which was destroyed in a fire.
The Necrópolis del Maipés Archaeological Park is a series of pre-Hispanic burial mounds.
Puerto de Las Nieves
Two kilometres west of the centre of Agaete is Puerto de Las Nieves, a fishing village where you can enjoy fresh fish in one of it's popular restaurants. This area enjoys one of the best climates in the north of the Island, making it a popular place at weekends with locals.
The Ermita de las Nieves features a 16th Century Flemish Triptych by Joost van Cleve, depicting the Virgin Mary and Child.
From the pebbly Beach, Playa de Las Nieves, you can enjoy the view of the former Dedo de Dios (God's Finger) – a sea stack which resembled an index finger pointing skyward. The actual "Finger" was destroyed during Tropical Storm Delta in November 2005.
A fast-ferry connects Puerto de las Nieves with Tenerife.
