Museums in Gran CanariaCasa de ColónCasa de Colón (Columbus' House) commemorates the Canary Island's role in the discovery of America and it's role in transatlantic trade. The building itself is a wonderful example of Canarian Architecture and is more than 500 years old. Contrary to some Holiday Brochures, it is not certain that Columbus stayed in this house during his voyage of discovery, although it is likely that they carried out repairs to the Pinta in Las Palmas. (currently closed for renovations) Address Calle Cano, 6 35002 Las Palmas Casa Museo Tomás Morales This museum was the birthplace of the Spanish Poet of the same name and houses an important collection of his former possessions. Address Plaza Tomás Morales 35420 Moya Opening Hours Monday to Friday: 0900 - 2000 Saturdays: 1000 - 2000 Sunday and Fiestas: 1000 - 1400 Casa Museo León y Castillo This museum bears the surname of a 19th century family that were prominent Canarian Public Figures. The Museum contains a collection of 16th - 19th Century Painting and Antiques. Address Calle León y Castillo, 43-45 35200 Telde Opening Hours Monday to Friday: 0800 - 2000 Saturdays, Sunday and Fiestas: 1000 - 1300 Museo Canario This museum chronicles the Aboriginal Guanche population of the Gran Canaria and houses a very important collection which includes the mummified remains of Guanches as well as relics such as Pottery and Stone Tools. (Vegueta) 35001 Las Palmas Opening Hours Monday to Friday: 1000 - 2000 Saturdays, Sunday and Fiestas: 1000 - 1400 Museo Elder de la Ciencia y la Tecnología This Museum, who's motto is "Forbidden not to touch", houses a series of interactive science exhibits. Address Parque de Santa Catalina 35007 Las Palmas Opening Hours Summer Schedule Tuesday to Sunday: 1100 - 2100 Winter Schedule Tuesday to Sunday: 1000 - 2000 Museo Néstor This museum houses the works of Néstor, who was one Spain's most important Symbolist Painters. Address Pueblo Canario-Parque Doramas Las Palmas Opening Hours Tuesday to Saturday: 1000 - 2000 Sundays and Fiestas: 1030 - 1430 Museo y Parque Arqueológico Cueva Pintada This Museum and interpretive centre is attached to the Cueva Pintada (Painted Cave) archaeological site. Besides the Cave Paintings themselves, the museum also houses much of the Guanche artefacts that have been excavated from the site.
